As the famous saying goes – when one door closes another one opens. And as Netflix’s Outer Banks fifth and final season releases, the streamer has announced the series will be getting a prequel on the very same day.
Admittedly, I never thought a prequel was something needed for this storyline, but boy I am not complaining about it. The prequel, which is rumoured to be titled Kildare, is supposed to be a deep dive on the fictional island that the wealthy Kooks and working class Pogues so dearly love. Outer Banks gave us a treasure hunting storyline that took Rafe, Sarah, John B, JJ, Kiara, Cleo and Pope all around the world.
So, while we’re mourning one show coming to an end, we’re here to welcome another with open arms. Below, find everything there is to know about Outer Banks prequel Kildare.
What is Kildare about?
The Outer Banks creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke want to now explore the origins of the islands deep social divide of Kooks and Pogues in a prequel TV series 20 years before the first season of Outer Banks. Perhaps we’ll get to know more about the treasure hunters’ seemingly secretive and crazy parents. And this isn’t just some new idea – the creators have been openly discussing exploring this concept since 2023.
Pate stated to Deadline, “We’re working on the script.” So as for timelines, it seems like we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer before we get a synopsis of the show. He also shared, “It really is the story of how the island split – and it’s particularly relevant in our country right now – how it split into the haves and have-nots, how the Kooks and the Pogues started,”.
Who will be in the show?
Nothing is confirmed, not even a script so it’s hard to tell who will be on board. However, as it is the parents generation we can hope we get Sarah and Rafe’s parents, JJ’s crazy dad and the rest of the older generation that run the island Outer Banks, only this time in their youth. However, as mentioned above we can confirm the show will be created by the same team behind Outer Banks.
When will it be released?
There is no official release date for the prequel show, but given it has the green light from Netflix and a script already in the works, perhaps we can expect to see the series come out in late 2028 or early 2029? Stay tuned here for further information.
