Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) asked power consumers to dial the toll-free number 1912 to register electricity complaints and get real-time updates during outages caused by extreme weather.

Addressing the media at Amaravati, the Minister said intermittent power disruptions were being reported from different parts of the State because of soaring temperatures and sudden evening thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures crossing 48 degrees Celsius, and strong winds in the evenings, were placing severe stress on the power transmission network, he said.

Mr. Ravi Kumar appealed to the public to understand the challenges the electricity department faced in such conditions. Whenever a transformer was damaged or burnt because of overload or weather, it took at least two to four hours to restore supply on a war footing, he said.

The Minister praised electricity department staff for working round the clock in dangerous conditions to restore supply. Referring to a recent incident in Sattenapalli, he said two employees narrowly escaped a serious mishap while repairing a transformer in high temperatures.

He said unauthorised hoardings collapsing onto electric lines during strong winds were adding to disruptions in several areas. The Energy Department was coordinating with the Municipal Administration Department to remove illegal hoardings and prevent such incidents, he said.

Mr. Ravi Kumar said electricity consumption in Andhra Pradesh had risen sharply because of the heatwave. Despite adequate power to meet the State’s needs, transmission problems were occurring because of the excessive load and the weather, he added.

The Minister said there were no power cuts anywhere in the State even for a minute. The coalition government had taken up large-scale construction of substations after coming to power, he said, alleging that the previous YSR Congress Party government had failed to build a single substation in its five-year tenure.

The Minister said 30 new substations would be completed by September, which would help resolve transmission and load management issues across the State.

Review with DISCOMs

Earlier, Mr. Ravi Kumar held a virtual review meeting with the Chairmen and Managing Directors of the three power distribution companies (DISCOMs) and senior officials of Transco. He said he had issued directives to make the State’s power supply more efficient and accountable.

He also expressed displeasure over delays in the construction of 132 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV substations across the State, he directed officials to complete the works within the set deadlines. He told them to fully activate the 1912 call centres in the three DISCOMs, equip them with adequate staff and facilities, and provide more accountable service to the public.
