Dia Mirza rarely misses an opportunity to wear a sari. The actor has consistently championed handwoven textiles and built an impressive wardrobe around the garment. Recently, for the trailer launch of her upcoming drama series, Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War, Mirza yet again turned to a sari, this time from designer Shruti Sancheti, whose understated and timeless clothes have appealed to Mirza in the past, too.

Handwoven in a classic satin weave, artisans used a multi-step screen-printing process to hand-print paisley and floral motifs in varying scales across the body, rendered in shades of burgundy, beige and sage green using non-toxic dyes. Mirza paired the sari with a sleeveless block-printed blouse with floral motifs inspired by 16th century chintz that originated in Golconda region, which is now present-day Hyderabad and also Mirza’s city of birth.
For jewellery, Mirza’s longtime stylist Theia Tekchandaney chose two antique silver necklaces—a choker and a princess-length necklace—along with jhumka-style earrings and a stack of bangles, all from Mumbai-based jewellery label Silver Streak. A pair of juttis completed the look. For beauty, Mirza opted for a dewy base with defined lashes, glittery eyelids, blushed cheeks, pink lips and a black bindi, while her hair was styled loose in side-parted soft curls, courtesy Harry Rajput.
Mirza has worn Shruti Sancheti on earlier occasions as well, including a blue checked mirror-work waistcoat paired with matching checked trousers. “Dia Mirza is timeless, graceful, and deeply passionate about Indian textiles and crafts, and believes in understated elegance, authenticity, and timeless style” says Sancheti. Founded in 2009, the designer’s eponymous label has been furthering crafts and handmade textiles, especially khadi, in designs that fit the modern context.
