The quarterback position battle is one of, if not the most talked-about portion of training camp for the Cleveland Browns. While a final decision on who will win the job won’t be made for a few more weeks, Deshaun Watson’s performances have seemingly turned heads. Especially Pat McAfee’s.
Wednesday’s update for the Browns revealed that the 30-year-old quarterback had what might just be the best day he’s ever had in training camp. He completed 17 of his 20 pass attempts, throwing seven touchdowns and no interceptions in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, according to ESPN Cleveland. Additionally, it’s said that Watson was the only quarterback to take first-team reps.

That update sparked a two-word NSFW reaction from Pat McAfee. The popular sports analyst and entertainer did not elaborate on his reaction, but based on the stats provided in the Browns’ training camp update, it’s hard not to fathom that he’s surprised by Watson’s play on Wednesday.
“HOLY S***,” McAfee said on X.
Something to consider is the number of first-team reps Watson received. Every single one of them. Right as training camp began, Browns head coach Todd Monken claimed that typically, for all positions, the players receiving the most first-team reps in camp battles tend to win the job. If that is true, then it appears the soon-to-be eight-year veteran may have the lead over Shedeur Sanders.
Deshaun Watson’s tenure in Cleveland has been nothing to gloat about. In his first three years with the organization, the most games he’s played in a single season are seven. He finished the 2025-26 campaign with 1,148 passing yards and five touchdowns while completing 63.4% of his pass attempts.
For comparison’s sake, Shedeur Sanders played eight games last year for Cleveland (seven starts). He ended his rookie season with 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and a 56.6% completion percentage.
