Adelaide’s first-ever MotoGP now has an official date, with the historic event set to take over the city from November 12 to 14, 2027.
The MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia – Adelaide 2027 will mark the first time a MotoGP event has been held on a city street circuit, putting South Australia firmly in the international motorsport spotlight.
The three-day event will be held on the proposed $96 million Adelaide Street Circuit, where riders are expected to reach speeds of more than 340km/h across the 4.13-kilometre, 15-corner course.
It will also be the first major international motorsport event held on the redeveloped circuit, before the bp Adelaide Grand Final takes place later that month.
Holding the MotoGP and Supercars events within weeks of each other is expected to allow much of the temporary infrastructure to be used across both events while reducing the overall disruption involved in setting up the circuit.
The State Government anticipates the two motorsport events will generate a combined annual economic return of more than $200 million, while MotoGP will showcase Adelaide to the sport’s global fan base.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said the inaugural race would be a significant moment for South Australia.
“From November 12 to 14 next year, the streets of Adelaide will roar to life as MotoGP makes history with its first-ever city street race,” the Premier said.
“We know how to put on major events in South Australia, and MotoGP will be another massive opportunity to showcase our state to a global audience.”
The confirmation of dates comes as the
project faces a legal challenge in the Federal Court, with an application lodged on September 18 seeking an urgent interim injunction over works associated with the MotoGP circuit. The application was filed by Joshua Hogan against the State of South Australia, with Attorney-General Kyam Maher confirming the government intends to defend its position. Importantly, an injunction has not been granted at this stage, meaning there is currently no Federal Court order preventing work on the circuit from proceeding. Further details about the grounds of the application have not yet been made public.
Consultation on the proposed Adelaide Street Circuit design, community space improvements and tree and vegetation planting within the Adelaide Park Lands has now closed.
Feedback will be used to finalise the detailed design, with work progressing ahead of the circuit’s international debut next November.
The redeveloped circuit is also set to host the return of the Santos Tour Down Under Classic from January 2028, while new service infrastructure is planned to support Adelaide Fringe venues including Gluttony and the Garden of Unearthly Delights.
