A sprawling, custom-built Wayland property, with enough windows and glass walls to make every room feel like a hike through the woods, has hit the market for the first time.

The house at 17 Deer Run was built in 1976 for the original owner and has remained in the family ever since. Now, it’s on the market for $3,950,000. The house is currently being taken care of by David Stewart and his wife (and the listing agent), Carol Stewart, who is selling the house for her mother, who is moving to a warmer climate.

Near the top of Reeves Hill, the 10,007-square-foot house sits on a 3.5-acre lot, making this expansive property the king of the hill. The contemporary house has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, two wood-burning fireplaces, seven parking spaces (two inside a garage), and an indoor pool measuring 38 by 91 feet.

The family has done numerous renovations to the original structure: a primary bedroom in 2000, a foyer in 2010, and new flooring in 2026, to name a few.

David Stewart said the private pool room always prompts a “wow” from guests.

“There are about 58 individual windows just in the pool area alone,” David said. Each window is framed with large 12-by-20-inch redwood beams that reach the ceiling. The room also has a mezzanine, which is roughly 11 feet above the pool. “Everyone’s jaw drops when they come into this room, ” he added.

David recommends that an incoming buyer hire a pool service to check the pool on a monthly basis.

“There should be very little to do because it’s a salt pool and basically does its own thing as far as cleaning … but every now and then it does need to be vacuumed and maybe the pH checked,” he said.

From its bedrooms, office spaces, the indoor pool, and the kitchen, almost every space of 17 Deer Run has a portal to vast views of the surrounding forests of Wayland. The Stewarts said they get the glass cleaned one to three times a year.

“You see nature in every room,” David said.
