Conor McGregor has said the “comeback season starts now” after undergoing surgery on a knee injury he sustained during his fight against Max Holloway.
The Irish fighter lasted 69 seconds before referee Mike Beltran was forced to halt proceedings against Holloway after the 38-year-old suffered an ACL and meniscus injury.
McGregor provided an update to fans on social media about how his return to fitness is going.
He wrote: “Surgery done. Knee repaired. The doubters can keep talking. I didn’t run from the pain – I walked straight into it.
“Now the real work begins. Comeback season starts now. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just the will to rise again.”
McGregor noted athletes who have made successful returns from serious injuries, including American Football legend Tom Brady.
He said: “These are my motivation here, especially the fighting boys. My mindset is unstoppable, unbreakable.”
The Irish fighter recently shared his plans for his last bout to be between July 8 and July 14, 2027, at International Fight Week.

The target week comes from an announcement by McGregor on social media, who wrote: “What was to be a generational beating is now to be reset. IFW 2027 The Last Dance.”
Providing an update on the injury in July, the UFC star said: “Quite shocking. I returned to competition within nine months to fight Diego Brandao back then.
“With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods, it is well within my realm to return by next summer.
“I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue.

“So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive. I am maximum discipline and have maintained it fully since the bout.
“I wonder was I saved from something worse here. I believe so. I would have attended the after party as ‘the man’ and who knows then. I believe I was saved.
“Thank you God! On we go, no sad stories. Thank you for the support and well wishes everyone, your health is your wealth.”
Holloway was awarded a TKO victory after the fight was stopped, as the former two-division champion’s comeback crumbled before it truly began.

Hours after the crushing defeat, McGregor took to social media to address the disaster that had unfolded.
He wrote on X: “My head gasket is gone. Destroyed.
“I had no injury/injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere.”
McGregor now has his eyes set on the IFW, writing in a follow-up post on social media: “I’ll see ya’s next year 100 per cent.”
