‘Concerts in India aren’t safe for women’: Travel vlogger alleges harassment at Post Malone event in Assam, video sparks outrage | Trending News

Emma, a travel vlogger backpacking across Southeast Asia, shared a harrowing experience at the recent Post Malone concert in Guwahati, Assam. Sharing a video on Instagram, the tourist alleged that she and her friend were harassed when making their way through the crowd at the event.

“Do you think concerts are a safe place for women in India? Last night at the Post Malone concert in Guwahati things turned serious very quickly. As two women in the crowd, both me and Amina were touched without consent within minutes of entering the packed area,” Emma wrote.

According to Emma, the situation escalated so fast that within 10 minutes, they decided to push their way out of the dense crowd and move toward the vendors’ section.

“Sadly because of what happened we were no longer able to enjoy the concert. This isn’t ‘normal crowd pushing’. It’s part of a wider issue of violence against women and the way harassment is minimised in public spaces. No concert, no matter how big, should make women choose between enjoying the music and guarding their bodies,” she added.

Emma also noted that the incident should not be seen as representative of Guwahati as a whole, as they came across people who helped them. “Throughout our time here, we’ve experienced so much kindness, warmth, and genuine hospitality. We met countless people last night who were lovely, respectful, and excited to share the moment.”

Amina, commenting on the incident, also acknowledged the people who stepped in to help them. “We had some good men to defend us, and also provide safety after what happened. Honestly, I was so impressed.”

Concluding the post, Emma wrote, “Women deserve to feel safe. Not just at concerts, but everywhere.” Amina reiterated her disappointment at the experience, adding, “We came for Post Malone. I did not expect that level of harassment.”

“Very disheartening to see that you had to experience such a shameful incident when infact it should have been a night to remember with some good vibes & great music playing,” another user commented. “North east India looked amazing through you guys reels. Really put it on the maps for many. Sorry to see this happen. Especially in such a unique part of the world,” a third user reacted.

Emma had previously rated Indian cities by safety, and called Delhi ‘overwhelming’, and Kerala ‘most respectful’.
