Well, this is exciting news!
A new restaurant and live entertainment spot could soon bring some extra “buzz” to West First Street. According to Universal Hub, the Boston Licensing Board has officially approved plans for King Bee, a new venue from the owner of the South End’s popular Beehive.
The project will transform three former industrial buildings into a restaurant, bar, and entertainment complex featuring cocktails, food, and live entertainment. The owner says the vibe will be similar to Beehive but geared toward a more “mature audience” than some of the bars along Broadway.
The new spot is planned for an area of South Boston that continues to see major development, including new residential buildings, hotel projects, and the future redevelopment of the Gillette campus.
And it wouldn’t be Southie without someone being less than thrilled about the project. A nearby resident raised concerns during the hearing about potential noise and crowds tied to the proposed 1 a.m. closing time. He also mentioned that he was concerned about the neighborhood’s sidewalks, which are in terrible shape, and with little street lighting, he predicted that patrons leaving the place would be “tripping, falling, hurting themselves.”
