COMING SOON: New French wine bar ‘Le Mistral’ brings a taste of Provence to Adelaide’s East End

Adelaide’s East End is about to get a little taste of Provence, with a new wine bar and bistro opening this July.

Le Mistral is the latest addition to Rundle Street, bringing the flavours and atmosphere of Provence to one of the city’s most bustling streets. The venue is the vision of hospitality professionals Matthieu Mioche and Christopher Richards, who have combined years of industry experience with a shared love of authentic food and thoughtful service.

Matthieu, born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and raised in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France, says Le Mistral is inspired by the cafe culture and Mediterranean lifestyle that shaped his upbringing.

“What began as a professional relationship quickly evolved into a strong friendship built on shared values, mutual respect and a common vision for hospitality,” shared Matthieu. “Le Mistral is a celebration of authentic hospitality, seasonal cuisine and the art of lingering a little longer. Together, Christopher and I dreamed of creating a venue that would combine authentic French cuisine, exceptional service and the welcoming atmosphere that defines a truly great restaurant.”

The restaurant takes its name from the Mistral, the famous wind that sweeps through Provence, bringing with it freshness, energy and the distinctive character of southern France. Those influences will be present throughout the venue, from the menu to the interiors.

Guests can expect seasonal French-inspired dishes designed for sharing, alongside a carefully curated wine list showcasing French and Australian producers. Cocktails, house-made pastries and a welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere round out the offering, making it as perfectly suited to an afternoon aperitif as it is to a leisurely dinner.

Leading the kitchen is French Head Chef Enzo Caridi, joined by Pastry Chef Camille Dalla Favera. Together, the pair bring traditional French training and techniques while highlighting premium South Australian produce.

The menu is inspired by regions across France, paying tribute to the flavours and culinary traditions that have influenced the chefs throughout their careers.

“We are passionate about hospitality and wanted to create a space where we could share our love for the industry with our friends, fellow hospitality personalities and guests in the heart of the Adelaide CBD,” said Matthieu. “The atmosphere will encourage guests to linger, share stories and embrace the French philosophy of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. We invite all our guests to settle in, enjoy the space and stay a little longer.”

Inside, Le Mistral has been designed to capture the warmth of southern France, with a welcoming bar, streetside dining and an intimate lower-level space offering plenty of cosy corners for a glass of wine or a catch-up with friends.
