Collingwood superstar Scott Pendlebury reveals how he spent his morning ahead of breaking AFL game’s record

Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury has revealed how he spent his morning preparing to become the AFL games record holder in front of more than 90,000 fans at the MCG.

Pendlebury will step out for game No.433 when the Magpies take on the Eagles in a game which is sure to capture the attention of the entire AFL world.

However, the 38-year-old has revealed he had a low-key lead in to the game which involved simply being a Dad and losing to his son in a video game.

“Today’s been really normal. Mum and Dad stayed over last night and just pretty much played a bit of PlayStation this morning with my son. (We played) Sonic Olympics. I lost a Rugby 7’s to him so copped that from him this morning. A pretty cruisy day,” Pendlebury told Fox Footy.

“It is different. Since ‘Fly’ (coach Craig McRae) has been here we’ve been big on embracing the occasion. And this is a little bit different because it’s an individual games thing. I’ve tried to lap it up and enjoy it.”

Pendlebury has been at the centre of attention all week in the lead up to the match and has not even been able to go to the shops without being celebrated.

“It was pretty funny, I was doing some shopping yesterday down in Elwood and they clapped me when I walked out and I was holding a pumpkin,” he said.

“It’s like ‘I’m getting clapped for buying a pumpkin’. It’s been fun, I’ve enjoyed it and now is the easy part where I get to go out and play.”

About 93,000 fans are set to flock into the MCG to watch the game, which will be the biggest home and away crowd ever for the Eagles.

“It’s going to be amazing to have that many people here,” Pendlebury said.

“We’re so fortunate we get to play in front of these crowds all the time but for a lot fans and that to be able to get here and pack this house out today, it will be really special.

“Nothing better than a ‘G, Saturday afternoon in front of 90,000.”
