The Sindh government has announced that Phase-I of the Karachi Safe City Project will be launched within two months, as installation work has been completed and trial operations are underway.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made the announcement during a meeting at the Chief Minister House, directing authorities to ensure the project becomes fully operational within the stipulated timeframe.
Under Phase I, surveillance cameras have been installed at key locations, including the Red Zone and airport corridor, with live footage already being transmitted to the Central Police Office command and control center.
The project aims to improve public safety through real time monitoring, facial recognition, automatic number plate recognition, and intelligent traffic systems. Authorities have also approved the recruitment of technical experts on a temporary contractual basis to avoid operational delays.
The chief minister approved a revised Rs200 million budget for Phase-I, with funds reallocated to prioritize staffing and patrolling needs. He also directed the Sindh Safe City Authority to begin preparations for similar projects in Hyderabad and Sukkur and submit detailed implementation plans for approval.
