Chief Justice of India Justice Suryakanth has declined a meeting request from the INDIA bloc opposition leaders concerning the Chief Election Commissioner issue. The opposition sought to submit a memorandum regarding allegations against Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar and issues related to the Special Summary Revision process. In a response communicated via email, the CJI’s office stated that meeting political leaders on matters currently pending before the top court would not be appropriate. The communication emphasised that under the constitutional framework, the Supreme Court cannot meddle in the government’s administrative functioning. Opposition leaders were advised that any grievances or protection of fundamental rights must be pursued through the judicial process rather than administrative representations. The Supreme Court is already hearing public interest litigations on the matter and has sought responses from the Election Commission and the central government.
