Champagne, classic cars and vintage glamour take over Birdwood this Sunday

More than 1,500 historic vehicles, live entertainment and an exclusive new long lunch experience are heading to the Adelaide Hills for this Sunday’s RAA Bay to Birdwood Finish Festival.

The Adelaide Hills will be filled with vintage glamour, classic cars and festival celebrations this Sunday, October 18, as the RAA Bay to Birdwood Finish Festival returns to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood.

More than 1,500 historic vehicles are expected to make their way from West Beach to Birdwood, bringing together over a century of motoring history for one of South Australia’s most recognisable annual events.

From beautifully restored vehicles dating back to the early 1900s to much-loved classics from the 1980s and 1990s, the event offers visitors a rare chance to admire an extraordinary collection of cars in one location, meet their owners and discover the stories behind them.

The Finish Festival promises plenty beyond the cars, with live entertainment, regional food trucks, local beverages and family-friendly activities filling the museum grounds throughout the day.

Visitors are also encouraged to embrace the occasion by dressing in their finest vintage outfits, with the popular Fashions on the Field competition celebrating styles from different motoring eras.

This year’s event introduces a new addition for those looking to experience the festivities in style, with The Ultimate Picnic bringing a premium long lunch to the heart of the celebrations.

Set inside an elegant glass marquee overlooking the festival grounds and main stage, the experience combines a three-course lunch with views of the historic vehicles and entertainment.

Guests will be welcomed with a glass of Taittinger Champagne before settling in for an afternoon of food and drinks showcasing South Australian producers.

The three-hour beverage package includes wines from McLaren Vale’s Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards and beers from Adelaide Hills favourite Prancing Pony Brewery, alongside non-alcoholic options.

The $179 ticket also includes entry to the Finish Festival and an exclusive guided tour of the National Motor Museum with an expert curator, offering another way to explore South Australia’s motoring heritage.

With the long lunch running from midday to 3pm, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the wider festival celebrations before and after their dining experience.

For those attending the general Finish Festival, the day will also feature a new 30-metre drive-on stage, where award-winning vehicles and their owners will be showcased in front of the crowd.

Whether you’re a lifelong motoring enthusiast, a lover of vintage fashion or simply looking for a different way to spend a Sunday in the Adelaide Hills, the event brings together motoring history, local food and entertainment in one setting.

The Finish Festival opens at 10am, with festivities wrapping up around 3pm and the National Motor Museum remaining open until 5pm.
