The 53rd Annie Awards’ nominees have been announced, and among them are a number of anime titles.
The DAN DA DAN Season 2 episode “Clash! Space Kaiju vs. Giant Robot!” (storyboarded and directed by Kenji Zenba) was nominated for the Best Direction – TV/Media category. Meanwhile, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara with Masato Nakazono as assistant director) received a nod in the Best Direction – Feature category.
Elsewhere, the trippy “BLACK” short (directed by Shinya Ohira) from Star Wars: Visions – Volume 3 is competing in Best TV/Media – Limited Series, while My Melody & Kuromi (directed by Tomoki Misato) is among the Best TV/Media – Children nominees.
Mamoru Hosoda‘s Scarlet is also competing, with nominations in the Best Direction – Feature, Best Writing – Feature, and Best Feature – Independent categories.
The 53rd Annie Awards will be held on February 21, 2026. In 2024, Hayao Miyazaki‘s The Boy and the Heron won Best Character Animation – Feature and Best Storyboarding – Feature at the 51st Annie Awards.
