ISLAMABAD: Former member of the National Assembly retired Capt Muhammad Safdar has filed a complaint with the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), seeking urgent verification of the educational qualifications, enrolment and professional credentials of JCP member Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon.
The complaint, addressed to the JCP secretary for placement before the chairperson and members, alleges that the law degree on the basis of which Bhoon entered the legal profession “may not be genuine and may be fake, bogus or otherwise incapable of lawful verification”. It asks the Commission to call for and independently verify the relevant original record.
The complaint does not explicitly use the words “recusal” or “suspension”; rather, it leaves the question of any interim arrangement to the Commission’s discretion.
The complaint requests verification of the institution from which Mr Bhoon claims to have obtained his qualifying law degree, along with the year of admission, period of study and date of graduation.
It also seeks verification of his original degrees, transcripts, result cards and registration records; independent confirmation from the degree-awarding institution; verification from the HEC; his complete enrolment record with the concerned provincial bar council and the PBC; and the dates and basis of his enrolment as an advocate.
Mr Bhoon has reportedly served a Rs5bn defamation notice on Mr Safdar.
