Jared Verse calls Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger a ‘hooper’ after his game-changing performance against the Ravens.
Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse had nothing but praise for linebacker Carson Schwesinger following Sunday’s dramatic 13-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns had been monitoring Schwesinger’s injury concerns entering the matchup.
Schwesinger delivered another impressive performance, recording a game-high 13 tackles and forcing a crucial fumble despite being playing through an ankle injury.
Speaking after the game, Verse highlighted his teammate’s toughness and reliability. “He has an old-school linebacker mindset,” Verse said. “He’s a hooper. You can count on him for anything.”
Verse added, “He’s the most reliable person I know.”
The praise came after Schwesinger made arguably the biggest defensive play of Cleveland’s comeback victory.
With the Browns trailing 10-3 early in the fourth quarter, Schwesinger forced Ravens running back Derrick Henry to fumble. Cornerback Tyson Campbell recovered the football, giving Cleveland possession at Baltimore’s 35-yard line.
The Browns capitalized on the turnover when Audric Estime scored a two-yard touchdown to tie the game.
Kicker Andre Szmyt eventually sealed the victory with a 37-yard field goal as time expired.
Schwesinger’s performance was particularly impressive considering his injury concerns entering the matchup.
The linebacker missed practice Wednesday and Thursday after suffering an ankle injury against the New York Jets.
However, he returned Friday and played against Baltimore despite carrying a questionable designation.
His determination helped Cleveland improve to 4-2 and move into a three-way tie atop the AFC North.
Schwesinger, the NFL’s reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, continues to establish himself as one of Cleveland’s most dependable defensive players.
For Verse, Sunday’s performance reinforced what he already knew about his teammate’s mentality and importance to the Browns.
