‘Birdnado incoming’ in Newburyport

Thousands of birds created a “birdnado” in Newburyport.

The US Department of the Interior warned of a “birdnado incoming” as thousands of tree swallows flew in a tornado-like pattern at Newburyport’s Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Complex in a video posted on Facebook Monday.

The birds can gather in large flocks during the fall migration period and stop to rest and eat berries and insects, the department said.

The video resembled scenes from a certain classic Alfred Hitchcock film, but the department referenced a different movie in their description.

“When enough swallows show up at once, migration starts looking a lot like ‘Twister’… the original… not the remake,” the post said.
