Bibra Lake: Joseph Paratore, 40, identified as cyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Perth’s south

A cyclist killed in a hit-and-run on Tuesday morning has been identified as beloved father-of-two Joseph Paratore.

It comes as police continue to track the driver of a white Toyota Prado, which they identified from a broken side mirror casing found at the crash site on North Lake Rd in Bibra Lake, Perth, on Tuesday morning.

Paratore, 40, cycled along North Lake Rd regularly and had just completed a charity ride at the weekend.

He is being remembered as a “larger-than-life character” with “infectious energy”.

“But above all, Joseph was a loving husband and a devoted father to his two young boys,” the PCITP cycling community said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hugh Le Tessier said “the family want answers”.

“This is a purely innocent victim (who) has lost their life,” he said.

The crash happened about 5.20am on Tuesday, just south of Sobek Pass.

Police said the victim was struck at a “reasonably high speed” but crash reconstruction experts are working to nail that down.

“We would expect there is some damage to the front of the vehicle,” Le Tessier said.

“We did locate a mirror component, part of an outside mirror within the scene.

“That’s helped us to confirm the identity of the vehicle.”

After the crash, the Prado turned left into Phoenix Rd, right into Sudlow Rd and left into Forrest Rd.

Investigators believe a number of motorists witnessed the vehicle before and after the incident, and “dashcam footage will play a vital role in identifying those responsible for this tragic incident”.

As police close in on the driver, Le Tessier implored them to come forward.

“Identify yourself, come forward, provide an explanation as to what happened,” he said.

“We’re quite open to listen to that explanation.

“But all I can say is that the decent thing is to come forward.”
