In this week’s episode of Four Corners, the program presents a BBC documentary offering a rare and confronting look inside Russia as its war in Ukraine continues.
Filmed and directed by Ben Steele, Inside Russia’s War first aired in the UK in February and draws on secretly recorded footage from soldiers and civilians, revealing a side of the conflict largely hidden from public view.

After four years of war, in Russia there is close to zero public opposition to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. But a few are prepared to speak out.
Across 2025, Russian soldiers from the frontline and civilians at home agreed to film with the BBC in secret.
Their testimony exposes the true scale of horror unfolding on the Russian side with Russian soldiers being tortured and, on occasion, executed by commanders as well as civilians at home experiencing brutal suppression.
Four Corners: The Zero Line: Inside Russia’s War is filmed and directed by Ben Steele for the BBC, and will go to air tonight, Monday April 27 at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
