Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party rule out AIMIM alliance, back Congress tie-up for UP 2027

Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party rule out AIMIM alliance, back Congress tie-up for UP 2027

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Uttar Pradesh, saying his party will continue with its existing alliance ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Responding to questions about AIMIM’s growing political activity in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav said the Samajwadi Party would move forward with the alliance that had previously defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Yadav’s remarks came during his visit to Lucknow as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

AKHILESH RULES OUT AIMIM ALLIANCE

Asked about the possibility of the Samajwadi Party joining hands with AIMIM, Yadav made it clear that the party was not looking at such an arrangement.

He said the Samajwadi Party would continue with the alliance that was already in place and would focus on strengthening its existing partners rather than forming a new alliance.

Yadav said the alliance that had defeated the BJP would continue going forward. He did not indicate any change in the party’s existing alliance arrangement.

The comments came amid discussions over AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s political activities in Uttar Pradesh and the possibility of the party seeking a larger role in the state’s electoral politics.

SP-CONGRESS ALLIANCE TO CONTINUE

Yadav also spoke about the Samajwadi Party’s alliance with the Congress, saying the two parties would continue their partnership for the 2027 Assembly election.

He said the Samajwadi Party would move forward with the INDIA bloc and reiterated that the existing alliance would remain the party’s focus.

The Samajwadi Party and Congress had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh as alliance partners. The two parties together won a majority of the state’s Lok Sabha seats, with the Samajwadi Party emerging as the largest party in Uttar Pradesh.

Yadav’s latest remarks indicate that the Samajwadi Party intends to build on the existing opposition alliance rather than add AIMIM to its electoral arrangement.

FOCUS ON 2027 ASSEMBLY ELECTION

Political activity in Uttar Pradesh has begun to intensify ahead of the 2027 Assembly election, with parties assessing alliances and electoral strategies.

The Samajwadi Party has maintained that its existing alliance will remain central to its preparations. Yadav’s comments also rule out, at least for now, an alliance with AIMIM.
