Adelaide’s first dedicated Greyhound Adoption Centre is opening its doors with open day party this Saturday

Adelaide is getting a new home for some very lovable four-legged friends, with the first dedicated Greyhound Adoption Centre officially opening in Angle Park this month.

Greyhounds As Pets SA is welcoming the community to its brand-new centre at 55 Cardigan Street, Angle Park, designed to give greyhounds waiting for their forever homes a comfortable place to relax, play, receive care and meet potential adopters.

The purpose-built space has been created with a focus on greyhound wellbeing, featuring comfortable kennel areas, indoor and outdoor spaces, enrichment and socialisation areas, as well as dedicated spots where prospective adopters and foster carers can spend some quality time getting to know the dogs.

To celebrate the opening, the community is invited to a special Open Day on Saturday, August 22nd from 11am to 2pm.

Visitors will be able to meet greyhounds looking for their forever homes, chat with the Greyhounds As Pets SA team about adoption and fostering, and learn more about what life with a greyhound is really like.

There will also be plenty happening throughout the afternoon, including dog-focused vendors, a free sausage sizzle and complimentary coffee for the first 200 attendees.

“We wanted to create a space that was designed completely around the dogs,” said Greyhounds As Pets SA Manager Steven Weinert. “Somewhere they can feel comfortable, receive individual care and enrichment, spend time with our staff and volunteers and, most importantly, meet the people who could become their future family.”

The centre is also designed to make it easier for locals to discover whether adopting or fostering a greyhound could be the right fit for their household.

“You don’t need to walk through the door already knowing you’re going to adopt. We want people to come in, meet the dogs, ask questions and spend some time with them. Sometimes it’s simply about meeting the right greyhound and making that connection,” said Steven.

Following the opening, the centre will be open six days a week, Wednesday to Monday, from 10am to 4pm, giving prospective owners plenty of opportunities to meet the available dogs and speak with the team.

Greyhounds As Pets SA has been helping greyhounds transition into loving homes across South Australia since 1997, working with adopters and foster carers to find the right match for both the dog and household.

The organisation also offers opportunities for locals to foster, volunteer and become part of the wider greyhound community.

And to make the opening even sweeter, the first 50 adopted greyhounds will come with an additional $600-value package, including seven days of free boarding each year at the GAP kennels.

So, if you’re considering adding a new member to the family or simply want to meet some seriously adorable dogs, the new Angle Park centre is worth a visit.
