Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday May 3rd and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a cool, showery stretch, with the city set for a run of grey skies, brisk winds and on-and-off rain across the week ahead. It’s a week to keep the umbrella handy, with highs mostly stuck in the mid to high teens before a colder hit arrives later in the week.

Sunday is shaping up as one of the wetter days, with a very high chance of showers across Adelaide under cloudy skies and strong northwesterly winds. The city is forecast to reach 19 degrees, with rain becoming a feature through the day and conditions likely to feel cooler thanks to the wind.

Monday stays unsettled, with another round of showers most likely through the morning and afternoon. Winds will swing from west to northwesterly, then shift west to southwesterly, keeping that chilly edge in the air as Adelaide again tops out at 19 degrees after a morning low of 12.

Tuesday brings a brief easing, with only a medium chance of a shower, most likely in the morning, before winds become lighter in the afternoon. It should still be partly cloudy rather than bright, and the temperature will hold at 19 degrees.

By Wednesday, though, the wetter pattern returns. Showers are expected to build again in the afternoon and evening, with light winds turning west to northwesterly before a stronger southerly change moves through later in the day. The top will again be around 19 degrees.

The coldest day of the seven-day outlook looks set to be Thursday, when Adelaide drops to a maximum of just 15 degrees under cloudy skies, with a medium chance of showers and fresh southerly winds.

Friday remains cloudy and damp, with a high chance of showers and a slightly milder top of 17 degrees.

By Saturday, conditions are still unsettled rather than clear, with cloud lingering and another possible shower on the cards, although winds should be lighter. The city is forecast to start at 10 degrees and reach 17.

Across regional South Australia, the same broad pattern is driving wet and windy conditions through much of the south while the northeast continues to deal with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms before that activity contracts eastwards. Showers are expected about the southern agricultural area and West Coast district through Sunday and Monday, with isolated light falls in the northern agricultural area and a chance of thunderstorms near western and southern coasts. The Murray and South East districts could also see thunderstorms on Monday before conditions ease.

Temperatures across much of the state are expected to stay below average through to Wednesday. Rainfall totals by the end of Wednesday are forecast to reach 10 to 20mm across the southern agricultural area, with locally heavier falls of 20 to 40mm about the Mount Lofty Ranges, the Lower South East and western Kangaroo Island. Coastal areas can also expect gusty winds at times, especially with a cold front due to move across the south later Wednesday.

There are also ongoing flood concerns in the state’s inland river systems. Elevated river levels are continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, while elevated creek levels are continuing along the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka. The Bureau warns that many roads and access tracks are impacted by flooding, particularly river and creek crossings, and travellers should check conditions before heading into affected areas.

Marine wind warnings are in place for parts of South Australia on Sunday, May 3, with gale-force conditions forecast for the Central Coast, South Central Coast and Lower South East Coast.

Strong wind warnings are also current for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, the Upper West Coast, Lower West Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait and Upper South East Coast.

On Monday, May 4, strong wind warnings continue for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast.

A flood warning also remains current, with elevated river levels continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha, and elevated creek levels continuing along the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka.
