Adelaide weather forecast for Saturday September 12th and the days ahead

Adelaide is set for a warm start and a cooler, showery change over the next week, with Sunday shaping up as the wettest and windiest day before calmer spring weather settles back in by the end of the week.

Today is the pick of the weekend for Adelaide, with sunny skies and a top of 23 degrees in the city, nudging up to 24 degrees at Elizabeth and 23 degrees at Mount Barker. Light winds will hang around for most of the day before turning northeasterly into the evening, making for a pleasant Saturday across the suburbs and along the coast. It’s a good day to make the most of the sunshine, with the UV Index reaching a high 6 between 9:20am and 3:00pm.

The change begins on Sunday as cloud increases and showers move in across Adelaide. The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a high chance of rain, most likely during the morning and again in the afternoon, along with the chance of a thunderstorm early in the day. Temperatures will ease back to a top of 21 degrees after a mild overnight minimum of 15 degrees, while winds swing from north to northeasterly at 15 to 25 km/h before shifting westerly and freshening to 20 to 30 km/h around the middle of the day.

Monday stays cool and mostly cloudy, with only a medium chance of showers, mainly later in the day and into the evening. Adelaide’s top drops further to 18 degrees after a morning low of 12 degrees, with westerly winds turning southwesterly by evening. It looks more like one of those grey spring days than a complete washout, but the cooler air will be noticeable.

By Tuesday, the city settles into a cloudier but more stable pattern. There’s only a slight chance of a morning shower, with a cool minimum of 9 degrees and a top of 17. Southwesterly winds will turn south to southeasterly through the day, and coastal areas may feel a little brisk at times.

From there, Adelaide’s forecast improves steadily. Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies and a cool start of 7 degrees before reaching 18 degrees, with southeasterly winds developing during the morning. Thursday looks brighter again, with sunshine returning, light winds and a crisp minimum of 6 degrees followed by a top of 19 degrees. Friday continues that warming trend, with another sunny day on the cards and temperatures lifting to 23 degrees after an overnight low of 11 degrees. Light winds will become north to northwesterly during the morning, setting up a much more settled finish to the week.

Across South Australia, it’s a more active picture, particularly in the west and along southern parts of the state. For the rest of Saturday, conditions stay mostly dry, apart from a slight risk of an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the far southwest by evening. Those storms could turn severe, with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible.

On Sunday, showers and thunderstorms spread further across the west and south, with the far west again the main area to watch for severe weather, including damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rainfall. Monday sees showers lingering in the far west and developing along southern coastal districts later in the day, before spreading across more of the Southern Agricultural Area in the evening. By Tuesday, showers ease back to southern coasts while the far northwest may still see isolated thunderstorms. Rainfall totals are expected to stay fairly modest for much of the south, but the far west could see 5 to 15 mm, with local heavier falls of 20 to 40 mm possible.

Happy Saturday!
