Adelaide is in for an unsettled stretch of spring weather, with showers, a possible thunderstorm or two, and a cooler run through the middle of next week before a slightly brighter finish by Friday.
Saturday starts out damp, with a high chance of showers across Adelaide in the morning before skies clear to a mostly sunny afternoon (so hopefully that’s good news for trick or treaters!). It’s a fairly mild day, with the city heading for 23 degrees, while northwesterly winds shift west to southwesterly and ease into the evening. Around the suburbs, tops are forecast to reach 24 degrees at Elizabeth, 22 at Glenelg and Noarlunga, and 21 at Mount Barker. UV levels will still be very high despite the cloud and showers, so sun protection is recommended from 9am to around 5pm.
Sunday looks like the wettest day in the city’s seven-day outlook. Adelaide can expect a partly cloudy day with showers becoming more likely, and there’s also the chance of a thunderstorm developing in the evening. Temperatures will lift to a warmer 26 degrees after a morning low of 13, but the changeable conditions mean it may be one of those days where locals get a bit of everything. Light winds will freshen from the north to northeasterly late in the day before turning easterly in the evening.
By Monday, showers are expected to linger, especially during the morning, along with another chance of a thunderstorm early in the day. Adelaide’s top will ease back to 24 degrees after an overnight low of 16, with winds swinging from easterly and northeasterly around to a southwesterly change during the morning. Tuesday settles slightly, though not completely, with partly cloudy conditions and just a slight chance of a shower later in the day. A cooler maximum of 22 degrees is forecast.
The middle of the week brings another dip in temperatures. Wednesday is shaping up as a cool, showery day with a top of 21 degrees and fresh westerly winds turning southerly through the day. Thursday looks like the pick of the later week, with partly cloudy skies, a low chance of rain and another top of 21 degrees. By Friday, a possible shower returns, but temperatures nudge back up to 23 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Overall, Adelaide’s week is looking like a classic spring mix, with sunshine breaking through between several rounds of showers and a few windy shifts along the way.
Across broader South Australia, conditions are also set to stay active through the long weekend and into early next week. Early Saturday thunderstorms over central and eastern districts are expected to contract to the southeast before clearing, while showers also pull back to the southeast through the day. Another system arrives from the west on Sunday, bringing showers and possible thunderstorms to agricultural areas and south of the pastoral districts, before shifting into central and eastern parts of the state on Monday. Rainfall totals through to Tuesday are expected to be light in some northern areas, but the southern agricultural districts could see 5 to 15mm, with 15 to 30mm possible about the southern ranges and Lower South East district. Higher totals of 30 to 50mm are possible with thunderstorms. Southern coastal areas can also expect fresh wind changes at times, particularly on Saturday, while fog patches may affect parts of the West Coast and central districts on some mornings.
Strong Wind Warning for the following areas:
South Central Coast, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast
