Adelaide is heading into a colder, cloudier stretch, with the weekend staying fairly settled before showers build early next week and a wetter midweek change arrives. For locals, that means a dry start for Saturday, a grey Sunday, then a run of damp winter days from Monday through Friday as winds strengthen and temperatures stay on the cool side.
Today in Adelaide, patchy morning fog is the main feature early, before a partly cloudy afternoon with a top of 17 degrees. Winds will stay light at first, becoming easterly and then turning northeasterly through the middle of the day. It’s a quiet start overall, and while there’s only a very small chance of rain, it will feel cool across the city and suburbs, especially in the hills.
Sunday keeps that wintry feel, with cloud increasing across Adelaide and just a slight chance of a shower later in the day or evening. The city is forecast to reach 18 degrees after a low of 10, with northeasterly winds picking up to 15 to 25 km/h. It’s not shaping up as a washout, but the day will look and feel noticeably greyer.
By Monday, the wet weather becomes much more likely. Adelaide is forecast to stay cloudy, with showers most likely arriving in the afternoon and evening. There’s a very high chance of rain, with between 1 and 6mm possible, and temperatures holding at a cool 17 degrees after a morning low of 11. Northerly to northeasterly winds will keep things brisk through the day.
Tuesday brings more cloud and the chance of another shower or two, although totals are expected to be lighter. The city is again heading for a top of 17 degrees, with a 50 per cent chance of rain and northerly winds at 15 to 25 km/h. It looks like one of those typical Adelaide winter days where it may not rain all day, but it’s worth keeping the umbrella close by.
The middle of the week is when the weather really sharpens. Wednesday is expected to be wet and windy, with a very high chance of showers and rainfall of 5 to 15mm. Winds will strengthen from the north before turning northwesterly, reaching 25 to 40 km/h during the day, and the temperature will struggle to 16 degrees. Thursday looks even wetter, with showers becoming widespread and rainfall of 7 to 20mm possible. Winds will swing northwesterly then westerly, staying strong, while Adelaide reaches just 15 degrees.
By Friday, conditions should begin to ease a little, although showers are still likely. A partly cloudy sky is forecast with a high chance of showers, lighter rainfall totals of 1 to 5mm, and a top of 15 degrees. Westerly winds will shift south to southwesterly later, keeping the air cool as the city heads into next weekend.
Across regional South Australia, the broader pattern is also turning more unsettled. For the rest of Saturday, isolated light showers are forecast east of the ranges and near southern coasts, with isolated showers also developing in the far west. Morning fog is possible around the Agricultural Areas, along with patchy frost in the South East districts. On Sunday, showers are possible in most districts, especially in the west, with a chance of a thunderstorm in the far west. Monday spreads shower chances across all districts, with the northeast and Eyre Peninsula the most likely spots for storm activity. By Tuesday, showers linger through central and eastern districts and begin to develop again in the far west later in the day. Rainfall totals to the end of Tuesday are expected to stay fairly modest overall, generally between 2 and 10mm, though isolated falls of 10 to 20mm are possible about parts of Kangaroo Island and pastoral districts.
For coastal communities and anyone heading out on the water, marine conditions also become more active. Adelaide Metropolitan Waters are expected to remain relatively manageable through Saturday and Sunday, but stronger winds start to build into early next week. A marine warning has also been issued for parts of the state’s coastline on Sunday.
