Adelaide weather forecast for saturday July 4 and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a chilly but fairly settled stretch of winter weather, with cloudy skies and the odd light shower today giving way to a mostly dry week of cold mornings and modest daytime temperatures.

For Adelaide, Saturday looks like the greyest day of the next seven, with a medium chance of showers developing through the afternoon and evening and the mercury only reaching 15 degrees in the city. Across the suburbs, it will feel similarly brisk, with tops of 14 degrees in Elizabeth, 13 in Mount Barker and 15 along the coast at Glenelg and Noarlunga. Light winds will keep things fairly calm, but the cloud cover and damp feel will make it a day for coats and indoor plans.

Sunday brings a quieter outlook, with partly cloudy skies and just a slight chance of rain. After a cold start of 6 degrees, Adelaide is expected to climb to 15 degrees again. Easterly winds will pick up briefly in the morning before easing, and while the city should stay mostly dry, it will still feel like a classic mid-winter day.

Monday is shaping up as one of the coldest starts of the week, dropping to 4 degrees before a top of 15 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Light winds should help keep conditions calm, though early risers, especially in the hills and outer suburbs, can expect a sharper chill. By Tuesday, temperatures lift slightly, with a forecast low of 7 and a top of 17 degrees. Partly cloudy skies continue, and while there is only a small chance of rain, the milder afternoon will be a welcome change after several below-average days.

The middle of the week stays steady rather than dramatic. Wednesday is forecast to be partly cloudy with a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 16, followed by a similar Thursday with a slight chance of a shower and the temperature again peaking at 16 degrees. By Friday, the chance of showers increases later in the day as northerly to northwesterly winds freshen. Adelaide’s top is expected to reach 16 degrees after a morning low of 7, closing out the working week with a hint of a wetter change on the way.

For those heading to the coast, Adelaide Metropolitan Waters are looking calm through the first half of the week. Winds are expected to stay mostly below 10 knots through Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with seas below 0.5 metres and low westerly to southwesterly swell. Tuesday shapes up even brighter on the water, with mostly sunny conditions and light east to northeasterly winds.

Across the rest of South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a high pressure system, which is helping keep conditions settled over the weekend and into early next week. Isolated light showers are expected about the southern agricultural area today, especially around windward coasts and ranges, while morning fog patches are likely across agricultural districts and south of the pastoral areas. Sunday turns mostly dry apart from a few light showers along southern coastal parts in the morning, with frost and fog patches again likely inland. Monday remains mostly dry, though frosty and foggy starts are possible on and east of the ranges. By Tuesday, there is a chance of showers about central pastoral districts. Maximum temperatures are generally forecast to stay below average, though eastern and southeastern parts of the state may edge above average early next week.
