Fresh from helping South Australia secure a national title on home soil, Adelaide volleyballer Sophia Soderberg has earned another green and gold call-up.
Sophia has been selected in the Australian women’s team contesting the 2026 Oceania Zonal Volleyball Championships in Guam from August 3 to 9.
The tournament will bring together teams from across the region and forms part of Volleyball Australia’s long-term pathway towards future senior national team success, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
“It’s an incredible honour to wear the green and gold again,” Sophia said.
“Every opportunity to represent Australia is something I treasure, and I’m excited to compete with this group on the international stage.”
Her international selection follows a successful campaign at the 2026 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships, held at the Lights Community and Sports Centre in Adelaide from July 9 to 12.
Sophia was part of the South Australian Under 23 women’s team that defeated New South Wales in straight sets to claim the national title.
The victory formed part of South Australia’s most successful campaign in the tournament’s history, with the state finishing with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
Sophia is one of four South Australian players selected in the Australian squads for Guam. She is joined in the women’s team by Georgina Vanloo, while Caden Day and Toby Willis have been selected in the men’s side.
Away from the indoor court, Sophia studies and competes in beach volleyball at Florida Atlantic University in the United States.
The Brighton Secondary School graduate joined Florida Atlantic after competing in both indoor and beach volleyball at Palm Beach State College.
During her time at Palm Beach, she led the indoor team in digs across two consecutive seasons, recording 392 in her first year and 323 in her second.
Sophia has also maintained a strong academic record while balancing university study with an elite sporting program. She was named to Florida Atlantic University’s President’s List for the 2026 spring semester, an honour awarded to students who recorded a 4.0 grade point average.
Her latest Australian selection marks another step in her goal of continuing through the national volleyball pathway and competing at the sport’s highest level.
