Abu Dhabi lines up busy June of sport

Abu Dhabi will host a full month of sport in June, with the UAE Games, major jiu-jitsu events and indoor summer festivals all on the schedule.

The second edition of the UAE Games will be one of the main events of the month. The competition runs from June 6 to 10 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, bringing together more than 1,000 athletes of determination, as well as international delegations.

Yalla Sports has already covered the UAE Games as one of the key community sport events in the country this summer. The event will also introduce a new visual identity, with a logo inspired by the colours of the UAE flag.

Jiu-jitsu will also have a strong presence in the capital this month.

Mubadala Arena will host the fourth round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship from June 5 to 7. The round will be for the Gi category and is part of the domestic jiu-jitsu season.

The same venue will then stage the UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Championship from June 12 to 14. Hundreds of athletes are expected to compete across different age groups, belt ranks and nationalities.

First-place winners at the national championship will earn 1,000 ranking points, making it one of the more important ranking events on the June calendar.

There will also be international competition in Al Ain, where Abu Dhabi Fencing Club will stage the Abu Dhabi International Open Fencing Championship on June 6 and 7.

Bowling will feature later in the month. The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, in cooperation with the UAE Bowling Federation and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, will hold the first Academy Bowling Championship from June 11 to 14. The event will include leading players from the UAE and overseas.

Cycling also has a place in the early June programme. Al Hudayriyat Cycling Track was scheduled to host community activities on June 3 to mark World Bicycle Day. Events included races from one to five kilometres, plus a 40-kilometre challenge.

The capital’s indoor summer sports programme also returns this month.

The fifth edition of Abu Dhabi Summer Sports will run at ADNEC Abu Dhabi from June 6 to August 23, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and ADNOC Group.

ADNEC Al Ain will host the fourth edition of Al Ain Summer Sports from June 10 to August 19.

Both events are part of the largest indoor summer sports programme in the Middle East, giving residents a way to stay active during the hottest months of the year.
