Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq See Sharp Statistical Decline in PSL 11

The performances of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq in 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) have raised questions after both mystery spinners recorded a sharp decline compared to their impressive campaigns last season.

Abrar Ahmed entered PSL 2026 after an outstanding 2025 season in which he claimed 17 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.23. He also maintained an economy rate of 7.34 and a strike rate of 15.7, making him one of the most effective spin bowlers in the tournament.

However, the 2026 season has been far less impactful for the Quetta Gladiators spinner. In 10 matches, Abrar managed only 9 wickets, while his bowling average jumped to 36.77 and his strike rate increased to 26. His economy rate also rose to 8.48.

Usman Tariq has experienced a similar dip in form. The mystery spinner was one of the breakout stars of PSL 2025, taking 10 wickets in just five matches with a remarkable average of 15.9 and a strike rate of 12.

In PSL 2026, however, Tariq picked up 9 wickets in 10 matches. His bowling average increased sharply to 33.55, while his strike rate climbed to 26.6. His economy rate slightly improved from 7.95 to 7.55, but the wicket-taking impact seen last season has largely disappeared.

Despite the decline in numbers, both bowlers remained part of discussions surrounding Pakistan’s spin attack throughout the tournament.

Mid-season reviews during PSL 11 still identified Abrar among the competition’s notable wicket-taking wrist spinners, while Usman Tariq’s performances were described as one of Quetta Gladiators’ major disappointments this season.

Even with their struggles in PSL 11, both spinners continued to attract interest in franchise cricket. Usman Tariq was signed by Warwickshire Bears for the 2026 Vitality Blast, while both Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq were also picked in The Hundred 2026 draft, highlighting that franchises still value their skills despite the decline in numbers.

However, the comparison between their PSL 2025 and PSL 2026 performances has sparked debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning whether the decline is simply a dip in form or a sign that batters have started reading their mystery spin more effectively.
