If you’re thinking of exploring our beautiful state this winter, there’s a new secluded escape bringing stunning views, gorgeous coastal scenery and a touch of luxury to Kangaroo Island.
Autra Resort’s collection of premium coastal cabins, perched along the coastline at Cape Willoughby, offer the perfect setting for a relaxing couples retreat or a girls’ getaway, allowing you to disconnect from the stresses of everyday.
Since the launch on 1 June, the cabins have already captured the attention of travellers. The retreat is shaping up to be one of Autra Resort’s most impressive offerings, with project developer Jim Apostolou, describing it as “certainly the most majestic” of the short stay resorts.
The Cape Willoughby cabins join the Autra Resort’s other South Australian escapes in the Barossa Valley and Middleton, both opening within the last two years. Each location showcases a different side of the state’s diverse landscapes: from vineyard views, country charm and rolling countryside to uninterrupted ocean scenes and striking coastal beauty.
“The idea behind it is that every location offers different experiences and that’s the beauty of it.”
Jim says Managing Director, James Guo, has a knack for spotting pristine off-grid locations in South Australia, with plans for the Kangaroo Island retreat dating back to 2024. While the five-star cabins offer an upscale experience to any traveller, the combination of complete privacy and scenic views are sure to enchant couples and awaken the inner romantic.
Named after different animals, the 12 cabins offer slightly different experiences to accommodate guests’ unique travel styles. Windows line the walls and frame the picturesque surroundings, right from the comfort of your sleek kitchen. Every cabin features a king-size bed, modern bathroom and intimate living space where guests can cosy up by a crackling fireplace with a glass of wine on chilly nights.
Private decks allow guests to completely immerse themselves in the island’s natural beauty, whether they’re spotting local wildlife or watching the sun melt below the horizon.
You might assume that after opening three short-stay resorts within two years, the group would be slowing down. But Kangaroo Island is not where the Autra Resort’s plans end. The team has selected another iconic South Australian location to be the breathtaking backdrop to more developments.
The plans for a ten-cabin resort in McLaren Vale, set among the vast vineyard of Dowie Doole Winery, are officially in the works. The location was a natural next step for the team as it’s “another beautiful location … with views over the wineries and the hills in the background.” While the retreat is still under construction, opening day is edging closer, with guests expected to arrive in August.
So whether you’re craving a coastal getaway or wanting a winery retreat, Autra Resort is continuing to create unique and authentic experiences that showcase the variety and beauty of South Australian landscapes.
