The team behind a new bar on Cape Cod is sharing a first look of what the outdoor space will look like when the venue opens this summer.

  • A massive family-friendly outdoor bar is coming to Cape Cod this summer

The Foley family, of J.J. Foley’s Cafe in the South End, announced last month that it will open The Backyard by Foley’s in Dennis Port, billed as Cape Cod’s largest outdoor family-friendly venue. Though an exact opening date hasn’t yet been released, the team says it is aiming for a mid June opening.

The family told the Dennis selectboard last month that it hopes the venue will help make Dennis Port more of a destination.

The 33,650 square-foot space will feature a nearly 5,000 square-foot sail-covered main bar as well as picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, high tops, and couches.

In the rendering, patrons are seated around a circular bar beneath a blue sail adorned in lights while others relax on nearby striped couches. The wall behind the bar says “today is a great day to have a great day.”

The venue will have rotating food trucks, classic lawn games, live music, activity zones for kids, and special programming such as outdoor movie nights, the Foleys have said. There will also be collaborations with area businesses, bringing pop-up ice cream, retail, and breakfast events, outdoor yoga, farmers markets, and more.

“There’s no big bands or DJ sets or anything like that,” Michael Foley told the selectboard. “It’s supposed to feel like summer in the backyard, that’s the environment we’re going for.”

Construction is currently underway at the site at 645 Main Street.
