U.S. Marshals search for Brockton suspect with possible ties to Haiti

Overview:

U.S. Marshals are searching for Davinci Leonard, charged in a deadly Brockton shooting that killed two teenagers. Authorities say he has ties to Haiti, while the mother of one victim told The Haitian Times investigators believe he may be there.

U.S. Marshals are offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information leading to the arrest of a man charged in a March shooting outside a Chipotle in Brockton, Massachusetts, that killed two teenagers.

Davinci Leonard, 23, faces two counts of first-degree murder and multiple firearms-related charges in connection with the March 22, 2025, shooting that left a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old dead, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

In an email to The Haitian Times, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force said it believes Leonard “has ties to Haiti” and that investigators are pursuing both international and domestic leads. The agency did not confirm Leonard’s location. Authorities urged anyone with information on Leonard’s whereabouts to contact the Marshals.

The mother of the 18-year-old victim, Caitlin Alvarez, told The Haitian Times that investigators have informed her they believe Leonard may be in Haiti, possibly near the border with the Dominican Republic. Alvarez said she has been working closely with the U.S. Marshals and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

“They both confirmed that they have leads that make them believe that DaVinci is in Haiti,” Alvarez said. She added that Leonard’s parents are from Haiti and that investigators believe he may be relying on English-speaking contacts there.

Alvarez said the reward was initially set at $10,000 but was reduced to $7,500 due to budget constraints. She said her family is willing to contribute funds to bring the total back to $10,000.

According to authorities, Brockton police responded to a 911 call around 7:04 p.m. on March 22 reporting a shooting outside the Chipotle at 500 Westgate Drive. Both victims were transported to hospitals, where they later died from their injuries.

State and local investigators identified Leonard as the suspected shooter. An arrest warrant has been issued out of Plymouth Superior Court with authorization for nationwide extradition. Authorities say Leonard should be considered armed and dangerous.

Leonard is described as a Black man standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. Investigators believe he may have changed his appearance by cutting his hair.

Alvarez said her daughter had been dating Leonard and was with him in the hours leading up to the shooting. She said Leonard fled the scene, leaving her daughter and his 14-year-old sister behind.

“I just need the Haitian community to really help our families out and get justice for our kids,” Alvarez said.Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-877-WANTED2 or submit a tip through the agency’s tip line.
