Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has provided an update on fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi’s fitness, saying the pacer is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Speaking to the media, Salman said that Shaheen is progressing through his recovery program and expressed optimism about his return. “Shaheen is doing rehab at the NCA, and we are hopeful that he will regain full fitness before the T20 World Cup,” he said.
Shaheen Afridi sustained the injury last month while playing in the 2025–26 Big Bash League (BBL 15). The left-arm pacer was unable to complete his full four-over spell in a match for Brisbane Heat and was seen leaving the field during the game.
Following the injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recalled him from the tournament for medical assessment, forcing him to end his BBL campaign midway through the season.
The PCB is keen for Shaheen’s timely recovery, especially with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaching. The fast bowler has been included in Pakistan’s preliminary squad submitted to the ICC, underlining his importance to the team’s plans for the global event.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan squad has arrived in Sri Lanka ahead of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the hosts, scheduled to be played in Dambulla.
