JSW Foundation organised a National Farmers Day programme and model farm demonstration at Taluru village in Sandur taluk of Ballari district on Sunday highlighting the benefits of integrated farming practices and sustainable agriculture.
The event showcased the success of progressive farmer T. Veeresh, who has adopted an integrated farming model by cultivating 23 crops, including betel leaf, banana and onion.
His farm, which generates substantial income, was presented as a model for other farmers in the region.
Addressing a gathering, South Zonal Head of JSW Foundation Peddanna Beedala said that the foundation is promoting integrated farming among 300 farmers in 10 selected villages.
“Farmers have already received initial training. In the coming week, we will distribute soil health report cards, organic fertilisers, vegetable seeds, vermicompost kits, 20 Giriraj native chicks and essential plants for one or two acres per farmer, along with hands-on training,” he said and urged farmers to actively participate and benefit from the initiative.
Experts from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hagari, guided farmers on integrated farming practices, soil and water management, pest control, modern techniques and crop selection suited to the Sandur region.
Senior scientists P. Palaih and S. Ravi also addressed farmers queries and offered practical advice based on local conditions.
Manager of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative, Ballari, Hanamantappa led the visit to the model plots and explained crop layout, farm management practices and real-time applications of integrated farming.
JSW Foundation programme executive Nagana Gowda, representatives of implementing partner SCODWES, including Raja and Gangadhar, progressive farmers, including Veeresh and Basappa, and more than 100 farmers from surrounding villages attended the programme.
