Coastal tourism businesses across South Australia are set to enjoy a significant boost from today, with the launch of bookings under the expanded Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program.
The vouchers come at a crucial time for coastal operators, with many having experienced a challenging year due to the recent algal bloom. The program is designed to stimulate visitation and support recovery, building on the proven impact of the first round of vouchers, which injected approximately $6.4 million into coastal visitor economies. That round delivered a strong return on investment, with every dollar in voucher value generating $4.50 in economic activity for affected regions.
Running from 5 December 2025 to 26 April 2026, the second round covers the state’s busiest travel season, including Christmas, the summer school holidays, Easter, and several long weekends. Bookings open today for the 30,000 vouchers released, offering South Australians the perfect incentive to plan a coastal getaway while directly supporting local tourism businesses.
Vouchers in this round include $100 experience vouchers and accommodation vouchers ranging from $100 to $500. The program has been broadened to include additional accommodation providers such as Airbnb listings via the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, alongside a wider range of new experiences including guided sport activities and expanded leisure offerings.
Zoe Bettison said, “For many families, school holidays mean a stay in our seaside towns, and our Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program is making it even easier to keep that tradition going this season.”
She said, “We know that summer trade is crucial for many tourism businesses, with the boost in bookings from today set to be a welcome relief for many impacted by the algal bloom.”
More than 700 coastal accommodations and experiences are available to choose from, spanning kayaking adventures, seafood tours, sailing, family-friendly holiday parks, eco-stays, glamping options, boutique bed and breakfasts, motels, traditional hotels, and more. The breadth of experiences ensures voucher holders can tailor a getaway that suits their style while exploring some of the state’s most beautiful coastal regions.
The program also offers flexibility for recipients unable to travel within the booking window. Vouchers are transferable, allowing travellers to pass them on to friends or family to ensure the economic benefit continues to flow into coastal communities.
Jointly funded through the State and Federal Governments’ Algal Bloom Summer Plan, the Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program provides both an economic lifeline for hard-hit regions and an opportunity for South Australians to enjoy the charm and diversity of the state’s coastal destinations. With bookings now open, tourism operators are preparing for a welcome wave of visitors over the summer season.
A redraw for any unclaimed vouchers will occur on 22 January. All bookings must be finalised by 4pm ACDT on 19 January 2026, and travel must occur within the eligible dates.
