Ana Mazhar, 23, on Grief, Identity and the Stories We Keep Hidden

Ana Mazhar, 23, on Grief, Identity and the Stories We Keep Hidden

There are stories that begin with ambition, and there are stories that begin with a child trying to understand where she belongs. For Ana Mazhar, the journey towards becoming a performance coach, public speaker, and emerging author began long before she stepped into a professional world. It began across borders, through complicated family relationships, and in the quiet determination of a young girl who was learning to navigate circumstances far beyond her years.

Today, Ana Mazhar is helping people understand the psychology behind performance, confidence, and professional growth. Yet her most personal project, her forthcoming memoir, Dochter in het Verborgen, reaches into a part of her life that professional achievements rarely reveal. Anticipated for release in 2027, the English-language memoir is not simply a story about what she has endured. It is an exploration of identity, family, survival, and the freedom to decide who she wants to become.

A Childhood Between Countries and the Search for Identity

Ana Mazhar was five when she left Dubai for England. Another move, from England to the United States, followed, adding to a childhood shaped by four countries, different cultures, and changing definitions of home.

Being adopted and growing up with a Dutch stepfather brought another layer to her understanding of identity. Through her younger sister, whose Dutch heritage was an important part of their lives, language and culture became deeply personal.

But adapting to new places was only part of the story. Beneath the experience of growing up between worlds were family dynamics and circumstances that would shape how Ana understood people, power, and the behaviour that often remains hidden behind appearances.

She describes experiencing severe abuse from an early age. These experiences, and the loss of her younger sister, became central to the story she is now preparing to tell.

For Ana, the memoir offers a way to examine a childhood in which the meaning of family, safety, and belonging was far more complicated than it appeared.

The Memoir That Reveals What Success Cannot Show

The title Dochter in het Verborgen carries the emotional weight of a story that has remained largely unseen. Through the book, Ana Mazhar explores the identities people inherit, the roles they assume to survive, and the distance between what the world sees and what happens behind closed doors.

At its heart is her younger sister, whom Ana spent much of her childhood trying to protect. Losing her changed Ana’s understanding of family, love, and life itself. The memoir is written in her sister’s memory.

Yet Ana is careful about the message she wants readers to take from it. She does not want suffering to become a requirement for success, nor does she want resilience reduced to the ability to endure pain.

Instead, she is interested in a more difficult question: how does someone build an identity when much of their childhood has been shaped by circumstances beyond their control?

That question gives the memoir its emotional centre. It is not simply about looking backwards. It is about understanding how the past can influence the present without being allowed to dictate the future.

From Personal Experience to the Psychology of Performance

Ana Mazhar’s professional journey has taken her into performance coaching, real estate training, leadership development, and public speaking. Her interest in human behaviour has become the foundation of her work.

She is fascinated by the difference between potential and performance. Why do people with similar opportunities respond differently to rejection? Why does one individual see a setback as failure while another treats it as information?

These questions have practical consequences in professional life. Through training, strategy, and coaching, Ana helps people understand the patterns, fears, and behaviours influencing their decisions.

One of her proudest achievements has been standing before audiences in her early twenties and speaking to thousands about confidence, professional growth, and performance.

The contrast is significant. The young woman now guiding others towards greater confidence once experienced circumstances that left her feeling powerless.

But Ana does not present her professional success as a simple consequence of hardship. Rather, her experiences have shaped the curiosity with which she approaches people, leadership, and the psychology of achievement.

Her work is grounded in a belief that developing people deserves as much attention as measuring their results.

Building a Future Beyond the Boundaries of the Past

Today, Ana Mazhar is balancing two worlds. One is her expanding career in performance coaching and leadership. The other is the deeply personal process of preparing Dochter in het Verborgen for publication.

The memoir also reflects a wider ambition. Ana hopes to reach young women who have grown up believing that independence, education, ambition, and the freedom to make their own decisions are privileges reserved for others.

She understands that ambition alone cannot erase abuse, inequality, or the absence of opportunity. People need safety, support, and someone willing to recognise their potential.

Her vision of leadership is therefore not limited to authority or professional titles. It is about helping people discover capabilities they may never have been encouraged to see in themselves.

The Freedom to Become Someone New

Perhaps the most revealing part of Ana Mazhar’s journey is the way she speaks to her younger self. She would tell that little girl not to confuse being capable with being responsible for everything. She would remind her that endurance and success are not the same, and that she does not need to spend her life proving she deserved a better beginning.

It is a message that reaches beyond her memoir. In a world that often celebrates polished achievements without asking what lies beneath them, Ana’s story invites a more thoughtful understanding of success.

Her professional work is about helping others recognise what they are capable of. Her writing is about understanding what it took for her to recognise that in herself.

As Dochter in het Verborgen moves towards its anticipated 2027 release, Ana Mazhar is opening a new chapter, one defined not by the circumstances of her childhood, but by the choices she is making today.

She hopes to be remembered not simply for the doors she opened for herself, but for the ones she helped others walk through.
