“Mike [Marino, from the special effects team ProRenFX] has all of these scans of my body, so he was able to use those to create an exact replica of my hand,” Klum explained to Vogue. “We wanted everything to be as realistic as possible—the anatomy, the veins, the muscles, all the little details that make a hand look like a real hand.”
The costume’s structure used the model’s legs to form two of the fingers, while her right arm provided mobility for the thumb. Only her eyes and mouth were visible amid the bloody wounds on her palm, from which—to top off the gruesomeness of it all—Heidi Klum would occasionally spit out the fake blood that a team of assistants injected into her mouth. The most macabre part was at the wrist, where a horrific gash exposed a jumble of blood, bones, and torn flesh.
Heidi Klum (L) recieves an injection of fake blood to augment her 2026 Halloween costume.
