The prince continued to tell BBC Breakfast: “He’s a top bloke, really nice guy, good, honest, kind, decent northerner and I love that about Kevin, that there is no ego with him. He is what you get.”
The honour follows Sir Kevin’s gruelling series of fundraising challenges, the most recent being his final 7 in 7 event, which required him to complete an ultra-marathon on each of seven consecutive days.
During that endeavour, William and the Princess of Wales made an unexpected appearance in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, turning up to support Sir Kevin as he finished the third day of the challenge.
The extraordinary fundraising efforts were driven by Sir Kevin’s bond with his late Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow, who passed away in 2024 following a four-and-a-half-year battle with motor neurone disease.
