SBS Food is bringing viewers a taste of Norway with Norway Gourmet, an eight-part series following chef and Everyday Gourmet host Justine Schofield along the country’s coastline.
The programme is a brand-funded content series produced in partnership with Hurtigruten, the Norwegian cruise operator whose coastal voyages provide the backdrop for Schofield’s culinary journey.
Filmed on board and ashore in May, Norway Gourmet follows Schofield aboard Hurtigruten’s Original Coastal Express before heading further north on the Svalbard Line voyage from Bergen to Longyearbyen.

Along the way, she meets the fishers, foragers, farmers and chefs behind Norwegian cuisine, exploring regional ingredients, traditional dishes and the communities that shape the country’s food culture.

From reindeer to Arctic seafood
The series visits several destinations along the Norwegian coast, with Schofield sampling regional specialities and meeting the people behind them.
In Tromsø, she tries a reindeer hot dog with crispy onions and pickled beetroot at Raketten, a kiosk bar that has operated in the town square since 1911. On the Lofoten Islands, she meets Tamara Singer and Angelita Eriksen of Lofoten Seaweed, who hand-harvest seaweed for use in food and other products.
Further north, Schofield meets third-generation Sámi reindeer herder Máret Rávdná Buljo, Hurtigruten’s Sámi Culinary Ambassador, who introduces her to traditional ingredients, including reindeer tongue served in coffee.
In Longyearbyen, she cooks with chef Alberto Lozano at Huset, a restaurant owned by Hurtigruten Svalbard, exploring his approach to local ingredients and food preparation.
Other episodes venture into more unusual culinary territory, including stockfish ice cream and sparkling wine aged on the seabed. Schofield also visits Stamsund to see how food waste from Hurtigruten’s ships is composted into fertiliser for local farms, whose produce is then supplied back to the ships.

Schofield said the experience introduced her to a part of Norwegian food culture she had not previously explored.
“Norwegians are so proud of their food and produce, and it was incredible to see how the producers and chefs along the coast are honouring their traditions and the environment.”
Hurtigruten also sponsored the sixteenth season of Everyday Gourmet, which airs weekdays on Network 10 and featured stories along Norway’s coastline when it aired earlier this year.
Norway Gourmet is produced by H Squared Media.
Norway Gourmet arrives on SBS Food on Monday 26 October at 7.30pm AEST, with episodes available on SBS On Demand.
