For the Sarvojanin Durga Puja in Mumbai, a puja that’s an annual event for Kajol, the actor wore a custom ombre sari from Jaipur-based designer Punit Balana. The organza silk sari transitioned from a warm mustard colour on the top that slowly merged into a sage green colour toward the lower half. Mustard and sage is not a pairing you see often, but here the two colours seamlessly blended into one another.

The sari’s sleeveless, Chanderi silk blouse is inundated with intricately handcrafted danka, gota and zardozi work, which also features on the sari’s border. In the designer’s signature antique gold-tone finish, the embroidery added a regal appeal to the otherwise simplistic sari look.

The Rajasthan-based designer is also famous for his ceremonial, Indian accessories that also feature craftsmanship seen on his clothes. An embroidered blue potli can also be seen as a matching accessory worn by Kajol to complete her ensemble.

Stylist Radhika Mehra accessorised the look with antique-finish polki-studded jhumka style earrings from label Joolry. For make-up Kajol’s makeup artist chose highlighted cheeks, a glossy lip, everything was kept glowy, and the cherry on top was naturally a bindi. Her hair was done up in a traditional braid with a gajra and a hair ornament, which added to the traditionalism of the whole look and gave it that final touch, just in time for the festivities.

From the Vogue desk:

“Kajols two-toned sari is perfect for the festivities. Why not opt for a fitted crop top in one of the tonalities, pair it with keds or sneakers and it may just be the perfect look to get all the errands done from buying mithai to cleaning up the house or even inviting loved ones personally for the upcoming Dussehra festivities,” says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
