The Patriots continue to persevere despite taking shot after shot in the injury department.
Sunday’s 26-19 win over the Jets delivered yet another string of injuries to the Patriots, all of which will certainly leave New England in a tough spot ahead of a short week with a Thursday night game in Chicago awaiting them.
Here’s the long recap of players injured on Sunday.
Romeo Doubs
The Patriots got off to a bit of a dicey start, but all was well when Drake Maye had all day in the pocket, allowing Romeo Doubs to run himself open deep down the field.
Doubs was able to haul in the 42-yard pass while sliding in the end zone, giving New England a 7-3 lead. The celebration was short-lived for Doubs, though, as he remained down on the turf in pain.
Doubs landed hard on his right shoulder, and after getting tended to by the training staff on the field, he eventually made his way to the sideline. He was initially listed as questionable to return but he was ruled out early in the second half.
Doubs has 14 receptions for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. Sunday marked the return of A.J. Brown, which was supposed to slot the receivers into their proper spot on the depth chart. But Doubs’ injury threatens that scenario moving forward.
Morgan Moses
Early in the second quarter, Maye took a deep shot to A.J. Brown up the right sideline. Brown let the ball bounce off his fingertips, but behind the play, Moses remained down.
It wasn’t immediately clear what happened to Moses, as he went down after a non-contact injury. The team announced that it was an ankle injury. Like Doubs, Moses was initially listed as questionable to return but was later ruled out.
The 35-year-old Moses took over 94 percent of the Patriots’ offensive snaps last year and just under 93 percent this year. He was replaced Sunday by rookie Caleb Lomu, who was available because Will Campbell — who suffered a knee sprain last week — was able to play at left tackle.
Alijah Vera-Tucker
The lone concern when the Patriots signed Alijah Vera-Tucker was health, and the guard left this game due to a hamstring injury in the second quarter.
Vera-Tucker entered this game having played 100 percent of the Patriots’ offensive snaps, but he wasn’t able to return to the game.
With Vera-Tucker out, Ben Brown — who’s in for the injured Mike Onwenu at right guard — moved over to left guard, while Matt Pryor came in at right guard. The Patriots signed Pryor off the Cardinals’ practice squad two weeks ago.
Ben Brown
It was hard to believe, but the Patriots suffered yet another injury on the offensive line when Ben Brown got rolled up on when Maye scrambled early in the fourth quarter.
Brown was ruled out shortly after he slowly made his way to the sideline. His departure brought Walter Rouse — the Patriots’ final healthy lineman — into the game at guard.
Dre’Mont Jones
If the Patriots caught any break, it’s that Dre’Mont Jones returned just a couple of snaps after appearing to injure his leg. Jones has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the Buffalo game, and he stayed down and required attention after a play in the fourth quarter.
Jones, though, was able to shake it off and return to the field, which puts this one officially in the “injury scare” bucket.
