COMING SOON: Ricehome expanding to Firle with new claypot rice dishes and Asian desserts

Ricehome is putting the finishing touches on its second location in Firle, with a grand opening scheduled for October 25, 2026.

Known for its freshly cooked claypot rice, the expansion follows the success of its original CBD restaurant, which opened in January and introduced Adelaide diners to the traditional Chinese dish, cooked individually in claypots.

“Rice Home was born from our love of traditional Chinese comfort food, particularly claypot rice,” the team said.

“We wanted to bring the authentic flavours of Chinese home-style cooking to Adelaide and create a place where people can enjoy delicious, comforting meals that remind them of home.”

For owners Annie and Kary, the expansion marks another milestone in a business inspired by the flavours of their childhood in Guangzhou, China. Before opening their first restaurant on Field Street earlier this year, the pair spent almost two years refining their recipes and cooking techniques, determined to recreate the comforting claypot rice dishes they grew up eating.

Unlike restaurants that prepare rice in advance, Ricehome cooks each serving from scratch, adding raw rice directly to individual claypots with the selected ingredients. The process takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the flavours of the meat and seasonings while developing a golden crust underneath. Diners can also customise their meals with the restaurant’s house-made chilli and soy sauces.

The restaurant’s approach centres on food as a way to bring people together, with the team saying its goal is to introduce more Adelaide diners to the flavours and traditions of Chinese claypot rice while making it accessible to everyone.

Two customer favourites at the existing CBD restaurant are Chinese sausage and chicken with shiitake mushroom claypot rice, and Chinese sausage and black bean pork ribs claypot rice.

“Both dishes are loved for their rich, savoury flavours and the signature crispy golden rice at the bottom of the claypot,” the team said.

The Firle location will also introduce two new flavours: black pepper beef claypot rice and black truffle chicken thigh claypot rice.

For something to accompany the rice dishes, diners will be able to order the restaurant’s morel mushroom, cordyceps flower and chicken soup.

The team describes the traditional Chinese soup as a slow-simmered favourite known for its “rich aroma, delicate flavours and nourishing ingredients”, adding that it pairs well with the claypot rice.

Desserts will also feature at the new venue, with Ricehome planning to bring in a selection from its sister brand, Sugar Trend, which specialises in traditional Asian-inspired sweets.

The addition will give diners another reason to linger after their meal, with the new location planned to serve lunch, dinner and desserts in a casual, family-friendly setting.

“We’re working hard to get everything ready and can’t wait to welcome the local community,” the team said.
