Newly-appointed Jharkhand BJP in-charge Gajendra Singh Patel on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) lashed out at the Jharkhand government over its failures, corruption, and law-and-order situation. He also cornered the government on student issues.
He attacked the State government over the issue of infiltration, voter lists, women’s safety, and employment. He asserted that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alliance has been in power in Jharkhand since 2019, yet the public has received nothing but disappointment.
At his first press conference at the party’s State office in Ranchi after assuming the post, Mr Patel, also the BJP National General Secretary, raised serious questions about the Jharkhand government’s performance and policies. Jharkhand BJP President Aditya Sahu, Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi and former Chief Minister Raghubar Das were also present.
Sharing his experiences from a two-day visit, Mr. Patel stated that the information gathered and his interactions with people across districts revealed a dire situation in the State.
“All promises made by JMM, Congress and RJD in its manifestos proved to be false. The government has failed to provide basic amenities such as healthcare, education, roads, electricity, drinking water, and irrigation facilities. Every section of society, including the poor, tribals, Dalits, backward classes, women, farmers, and the youth, is distressed,”Mr. Patel said.
A tribal leader from Madhya Pradesh representing the Khargone Parliamentary seat for the second time, Mr. Patel was appointed Jharkhand in-charge in September 2026.
He asserted that the BJP has undertaken historic initiatives for the tribal community, but ruling parties in the Jharkhand government have misled innocent tribals; however, the community now understands the reality.
Soren encouraging infiltration: Patel
Mr. Patel, who is also the National General Secretary, alleged that the Hemant Soren government is mired in corruption.
“Mineral resources like sand, coal, and stone are being plundered along with the misappropriation of the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) fund. Water, forests, and land are being openly looted. The BJP has vehemently opposed this rampant loot at every level, from the streets to the legislative assembly. The current government has failed to undertake any work in the public interest,”Mr. Patel said.
Referring to the recent students’ protests over alleged irregularities in the recruitment exams of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand State Selection Commission (JSSC), Mr. Patel said that the State government is playing with the future of the youth.
“Paper leaks and irregularities in examinations have destroyed the futures of lakhs of young people. When the youth took to the streets to protest democratically, they were subjected to atrocities. The youths and students of Jharkhand are angry by the government’s style of functioning,”Mr. Patel said.
He also questioned the Hemant Soren government over the issue of alleged infiltration in Jharkhand. Mr. Patel asserted that instead of curbing it, the state government is actively encouraging it. He further alleged that instead of taking action, the government machinery is engaged in providing direct or indirect assistance to infiltrators.
SIR is a transparent process
He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took effective steps to strengthen the democratic process by enrolling genuine voters and removing ineligible ones from the electoral rolls; however, this government is opposing even a transparent process like Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
“By spreading misinformation and misleading the tribal community, this government is inciting unrest, which is highly inappropriate. The government will not succeed in its agenda,”Mr. Patel said.
He also raised questions regarding the state’s law and order situation and criticised the government over the issue of women’s safety. He remarked that an atmosphere of fear prevails in the state, and criminals are operating without any fear of the law, adding |that murders, robberies, kidnappings, and shootings are taking place openly.
