Inside Hisham Nagi’s Blueprint for Building Businesses That Last

In 1995, Hisham Nagi began his professional journey as a Sales Executive at the Cairo Sheraton, fresh out of a hotel management degree. What began as a career in hospitality would eventually become a 25-year-plus journey spanning hospitality, sports management, commercial real estate, tourism and food manufacturing.

One of the earliest moments that defined his trajectory came in 1997, when Nagi secured a major accommodation contract with FIFA. The agreement filled all 660 rooms and suites at the Cairo Sheraton for 60 consecutive days while achieving the city’s highest average rate at the time.

The experience taught him a principle that would remain central to his leadership philosophy: exceptional service is built through discipline, preparation and genuine respect for people.

That lesson followed him through senior roles with Four Seasons in Sharm El Sheikh and Doha and into increasingly complex business environments where commercial performance had to coexist with operational excellence.

Hisham Nagi’s Career Expanded Across Industries

For Nagi, moving between industries was never about abandoning one expertise for another. It was about building a broader understanding of how successful organizations operate.

His career eventually expanded beyond hospitality into museums, commercial real estate, tourism and the European multinational sector before leading him into food manufacturing.

Today, as CEO and Executive Board Member of El Koubasy Food Industries, Nagi oversees factories, supply chains, cold-chain operations, IQF activities and B2B strategy across domestic and export markets.

The transition into food manufacturing offered an opportunity to bring together decades of experience in P&L ownership, governance, commercial strategy and operational management.

For Nagi, the responsibility carries another dimension. Food manufacturing is ultimately about providing people with healthy, quality nutrition, making consistency and standards essential at every stage of the operation.

The Landmark Project That Defined His Commercial Vision

Among the achievements that stand out in Nagi’s career is the opening and operation of Hurghada City Center, the Red Sea’s first mega luxury mall.

With approximately 23,000 square metres of leasable space and more than 120 stores, the project required far more than a commercial vision. Nagi and his team handled licensing, construction, business modelling, recruitment and leasing while building relationships with leading local and international brands.

The development ultimately reached full leasable capacity.

For Nagi, its significance extends beyond occupancy figures. The project brought together strategy, execution and people while creating employment and establishing a new landmark for the destination.

It remains a powerful example of his approach to business: identify the opportunity, build the systems, empower the team and execute with discipline.

Building El Koubasy Food Industries for the Future

At El Koubasy Food Industries, Nagi’s focus extends beyond operating a successful family business. His larger ambition is to help transform it into an institution capable of thriving beyond any individual leader.

That means strengthening governance, developing leadership layers, improving board reporting and establishing robust risk frameworks.

His long-term vision is equally ambitious: building a company prepared for capital markets, with a future stock market listing serving as a milestone in its institutional development.

For Nagi, strategy has little value without the people responsible for delivering it. Throughout his career, he has repeatedly seen sustainable results emerge when teams are trusted, accountable and given clear systems.

This philosophy also shaped his leadership at Smart Villages Egypt, where the organization opened with 140 employees and achieved professional food, fire and water safety certifications by creating a culture in which everyone owned the standard.

Leadership, Recognition and the Importance of Succession

Nagi’s leadership philosophy has earned recognition, including the 2023 MEA Markets award for Best DMC CEOs. Yet he views such recognition less as an individual achievement and more as something belonging to the teams behind the results.

His experience has also taken him into industry discussions, including a panel at the ERS in 2019 and another at the ATF in 2024, where he addressed opportunities, industry trends, scaling and the ways market development is shaping the future.

Across different stages of his career, his message has remained consistent: organizations should invest early in leadership development and succession while creating shared services and systems that allow excellence to continue without depending on one person.

That philosophy reveals perhaps the most important evolution in Nagi’s career. His focus is no longer simply on building successful businesses. It is on building organizations capable of sustaining success.

A Legacy Measured by What Remains

Nagi hopes to demonstrate that Egyptian family-run businesses can achieve world-class governance while competing confidently in international markets.

His ambition is ultimately institutional rather than personal. If his work helps organizations professionalize, develop stronger teams and earn greater investor confidence, he considers that a meaningful legacy.

Personally, he hopes to be remembered as a leader who was demanding but fair, developed people and left every organization stronger and more sustainable than he found it.

His advice to the next generation reflects the perspective of a career built across multiple industries: remain patient and curious, accept unfamiliar opportunities, learn finance early and surround yourself with people who can challenge and teach you.

And perhaps most importantly, protect family and health along the way.

For Hisham Nagi, a long career is not simply about reaching bigger titles or larger businesses. It is about accumulating perspective, developing people and creating systems that continue to perform long after the leader who built them has moved forward.
