Freediver Gayatri Dances in a Saree Up to 15 Metres Underwater and Tells Ancient Sanskrit Stories on One Breath

Why she calls it ‘Kali Rising’

The project is called Kali Rising, after the goddess who dances between creation and destruction. It blends underwater photography, videography and poetry with Sanskrit epics and Sanatana Dharma archetypes, raising questions on women’s empowerment, human rights and ocean conservation. The saree, in her telling, is an archive of women’s stories.
