A case has been registered against a teacher in Rajasthan for beating a Class 5 student with a wooden stick after he forgot his notebook at home and threatening him against telling anyone about the incident, police said.
The incident took place on the afternoon of September 26 at Swami Vivekananda School in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district. The student’s father, Gordhan Ram Prajapat, 30, in his complaint, said that his son had accidentally left his notebook at home before going to school.
According to the complaint, the student told teacher Jagdish Bhora that he had left his notebook at home when asked to produce it. The teacher lost his temper, accused the child of lying and beat him repeatedly with a wooden stick.
The child returned home in fear and did not tell his parents about the assault. However, the next day the pain had become unbearable and he started crying. His parents then checked his body and found red and blue marks, according to the complaint.
The incident triggered anger among residents of Gogelav. A villager, Mahendra, told authorities that similar incidents had occurred with around 15 to 20 other children at the school and demanded strict action against the teacher.
Following the complaint, Sadar police registered a case on September 28 under Sections 115(2), 126(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation, respectively.
The investigation has been handed over to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shivdev Ram. Sadar police station officer ASI Garib Ram said the student was being medically examined and legal action was being taken in the case.
