Some careers are shaped by a single industry. Others are shaped by the ability to see connections between industries, markets and people. For Mert Kaan Duman, that perspective began early, when moving to London introduced him to a multicultural environment that would permanently influence how he understood the world.
Living in a city where cultures, businesses and ideas constantly intersected taught Duman to think beyond borders. Years later, that global outlook would become central to a career built around international exhibitions, trade and business development.
For Duman, exhibitions are not simply large events filled with companies and visitors. They are places where commercial possibilities begin.
Why Exhibitions Became His Business Language
The attraction was the intersection of several disciplines.
Business development, international trade, marketing and human connection all meet inside the exhibition industry. Duman found an environment where strategy could translate directly into relationships, market access and measurable commercial opportunities.
That combination became the foundation of his professional journey.
Over more than 15 years, he has organized and led nearly 400 exhibitions across approximately 40 industries. The scale of that experience spans sectors as diverse as furniture, home textiles, ceramics, footwear, fashion and healthcare.
During his time at CNR Holding, first as Marketing Group President and later as General Manager, Duman led several significant international trade fairs, including IMOB, EVTEKS, UNICERA, AYMOD, AYSAF and IDEX.
Yet the numbers themselves are not what define his understanding of success.
For Duman, the real achievement is what happens after the exhibition doors close.
A company meets an international buyer. A conversation develops into a partnership. A business enters a new market. A relationship continues long after the event has ended.
That lasting commercial impact is where he sees the true value of exhibitions.
Building Platforms Where Business Can Travel Further
Today, Duman is leading ROTA Exhibitions’ operations in Türkiye while developing a new generation of industry platforms.
Among the projects are Souvenir Expo Türkiye, GastroShow and KASTEXPO, each designed around a different sector but driven by a shared objective: connecting Turkish companies with global buyers, investors and business networks.
The ambition goes beyond organizing successful exhibitions.
Duman wants to build internationally recognized exhibition brands from Türkiye and eventually expand them into new markets. His vision is to create sustainable commercial ecosystems that continue generating value long after an exhibition ends.
It is a vision that reflects the evolution of global business itself. In increasingly connected markets, companies do not simply need visibility. They need access, trust, relationships and opportunities to build sustainable growth.
That is where Duman sees exhibitions playing a strategic role.
The Leadership Lesson Behind 400 Exhibitions
Behind the scale of his career is a lesson that Duman considers fundamental: sustainable success is built on trust, consistency and strong relationships.
The exhibition business makes that principle particularly visible. An event may take months or years to develop, but its success depends on thousands of relationships moving in the same direction.
Clients must trust the organizer. Partners must trust the platform. Buyers must believe the opportunity is worthwhile. Industries must see genuine value in participating.
For Duman, leadership therefore goes beyond managing projects.
It means understanding people, honoring commitments and creating long-term value.
That philosophy has shaped the way he approaches partnerships and business growth, while reinforcing his belief that relationships can become one of the most valuable assets in an international career.
A Global Vision Built For The Next Generation
Duman’s ambitions extend well beyond his current portfolio.
He wants to be remembered as a leader who transformed exhibitions into strategic platforms for trade, investment and international growth. His long-term goal is to build globally recognized brands, connect markets across borders and create ecosystems capable of generating opportunities for companies and future generations of professionals.
It is a vision rooted in both experience and patience.
Looking back, Duman says he would tell his younger self to think long term and never underestimate the power of relationships. Skills and experience develop over time, but integrity, resilience and the ability to earn trust ultimately shape a career.
He would also encourage himself to take more calculated risks.
Because sometimes the opportunities that change a career are waiting just beyond the boundaries of familiarity.
For Mert Kaan Duman, the journey continues in the space between markets, industries and people. His work is ultimately about creating the meeting points where business can move forward.
And as his next exhibitions take shape, his larger ambition remains clear: not simply to organize events, but to build platforms through which companies, industries and markets can discover what becomes possible when the world comes together.
