Minister of Industries and Food Processing T.G. Bharath Gupta thanked the police personnel, officials, civic staff, and Ganesh Utsav organisers for the smooth conduct of idol immersion proceedings in Kurnool city despite severe water shortage.
Speaking to the media here on Friday (September 25, 2026), the Minister said that Kurnool had been celebrating the tradition of immersing the idol for about 45 years. “With Sunkesula Barrage recording very low storage and water being prioritised for drinking needs, authorities created alternative arrangements at the K-C and Handri-Neeva canals,” he said.
At the Vinayaka Ghat on the K-C Canal, retaining walls were built along a 600-metre stretch to create a tank-like facility. Around 20 lakh litres of treated water from the city’s water-supply system and other sources were made available, enabling immersion with water levels reaching about nine feet, he said.
The Minister said that around 2,500 idols from Kurnool city were brought for immersion. Large idols were also immersed at Nannur toll gate, Tadakanapalle and Ulindakonda along the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi canal.
