She could not see the stage. But when Vaikom Vijayalakshmi walked up to receive her first National Film Award, the entire room stood up for her.
Born visually impaired, Vijayalakshmi discovered her love for music as a child. She learned more than 100 ragas just by listening to recordings, even before she received formal music training.
Years later, her incredible musical talent became the voice behind “Angu Vaana Konilu” from A.R.M., winning her the National Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
As she walked up to receive the award, the entire room gave her a standing ovation.
From learning music by simply listening to performing on one of India’s biggest stages, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi’s journey shows that talent has no limits.
